Purple Heron

Ardea purpurea

With a recorded wingspan of 55 inches, this is one of the larger herons frequenting the Philippines. This bird can often be found in rice fields and most wetlands. Usually, they can be seen flying and wading in huge numbers in Candaba. Perched on a branch of a dead tree, I got lucky to have photographed it in this unusual setting.

Yellow Bittern

Ixobrychus sinensis
Malabun-ak (Negros)

Only after a number of years doing birding trips regularly that I was able to get a good shot of this species. Usually this bird is really good at camouflaging itself with the environment. It can pretend like a twig and not move for so long. Maniwala kayo, nde sya napapagod hehe.
